The chin area plays an important role in the overall appearance of the face. Small fat pads on the chin ("double chin") change the contour of the chin. They make the face appear to sag, making it look older and more tired. Fortunately, a double chin can be corrected relatively easily with targeted liposuction.

If you would also like to get rid of your double chin and are interested in liposuction, arrange a personal consultation with Dr. Schumacher at his practice in Mannheim without any obligation. Here you can find out all the important information about liposuction on the chin, what results you can expect and how you can permanently prevent a double chin.

Frequently asked questions about double chin removal in Mannheim

A double chin refers to the accumulation of small fat deposits on the chin that look as if there is a second chin behind it - hence the name. A double chin can have various causes. In most cases, the small pockets of fat form as a result of being overweight. However, there are also people of normal weight for whom the double chin is probably genetic. With increasing age, existing fat deposits can no longer be broken down as easily and the skin loses elasticity and tone. Both of these factors also promote the development of a double chin.

Yes, it is possible to a certain extent. A healthy body weight is the best way to prevent a double chin. Although there are people who have a genetic predisposition to a double chin, it is also (particularly) important for them to avoid being overweight. In some cases, the double chin has other causes, such as age-related sagging of the skin. As a rule, this cannot be completely avoided. However, you can slow it down with a healthy lifestyle (e.g. no UV light, alcohol, nicotine) and good skin care.

Liposuction to remove the double chin is always an option if there are large fat deposits on the chin area that need to be permanently removed to give the chin a clearer contour. Liposuction can be performed in combination with other treatments (e.g. neck lift) if required. Let Dr. Schumacher advise you in detail in a personal consultation. It is best to make an appointment directly at our practice in Mannheim.

When removing the double chin by liposuction, the treatment area is first anesthetized locally. General anesthesia is also possible on request, during which you will not notice anything of the actual procedure. The treatment begins with the injection of a special active ingredient solution. This serves to loosen the fat cells in the area in question and separate them from the surrounding tissue. This makes it easier to suction them out using fine cannulas. The procedure is very gentle on the tissue and is performed on an outpatient basis so that you can leave the practice in Mannheim once the anesthetic has worn off. For a good and safe recovery, please follow Dr. Schumacher's recommendations for aftercare and attend the check-ups at the practice.

Swelling may occur in the chin area after the procedure. To alleviate this and positively support the healing process, you should wear a chin bandage/compression mask for the first few days after treatment. As soon as you can remove the bandage, you will usually be able to socialize again. Until then, allow yourself physical rest and take it easy. Avoid direct sunlight, sauna and solarium visits. You should also avoid sport and other strenuous physical activities, especially those where you hold your head down, for approx. 4 weeks.

The results of liposuction are generally permanent. This is because once fat cells have been removed by liposuction, they cannot form again. However, in the event of extreme weight gain, it cannot be ruled out that new fat deposits will accumulate on the face, which will affect the result achieved by the treatment. Although this can be corrected by repeat liposuction, we recommend that our patients maintain a healthy lifestyle and normal weight after liposuction.

As with any liposuction procedure, there are also some risks involved in removing the double chin, which we will explain to you in detail in advance during the consultation at our practice in Mannheim. These include, for example, slight swelling, redness or minor bruising as well as numbness in the treated area. However, these consequences of treatment usually subside on their own within a few days. Very rare, but still possible, are secondary bleeding or wound healing disorders. However, the risk of this can be minimized if the procedure is carried out properly and professionally by an experienced surgeon such as Dr. Schumacher. If the treatment is performed under general anesthesia, the general risks of anesthesia must be taken into account.
