The first impression we form of a person is through eye contact. The first signs of ageing on the face are often first seen on the eyelids. Excess skin in the upper eyelid area or bags under the eyes in the lower eyelid area often look tired and prematurely aged. A tightening of the eyelids restores a natural and fresh appearance. Dr. Lars Schumacher has been performing eyelid lifts for over 20 years. Although eyelid lifting is one of the smallest procedures on the face, it often has a major effect.
Good planning of the operation is essential: how much skin is removed and where - this allows an optimal result to be achieved. The operation takes between 30 minutes (upper eyelid lift) and 60 minutes (lower eyelid lift). You should rest for a few days after the operation to help the wound heal.

Frequently asked questions about eyelid lifting in Mannheim
If you are considering an eyelid lift in Mannheim, Dr. Schumacher will first conduct a detailed consultation with you. You will learn all the details about the eyelid lift itself, the risks and the possible results. Dr. Schumacher will also advise you on which form of eyelid correction is suitable in your case.
An eyelid lift is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. Depending on the extent of the treatment, the procedure takes around 30 - 60 minutes. An inpatient stay is not necessary.
If an upper eyelid lift is to be performed, Dr. Schumacher makes a short incision along the folds of the eyelid. He uses this incision to remove the existing excess skin and fatty tissue. The surgical wounds are then sutured using scar-saving incision techniques.
In a lower eyelid lift, the incisions are made below the edge of the eyelid along the lash line. Here too, Dr. Schumacher first makes the incisions and then removes excess skin and bulging fatty tissue. The skin incisions are then sutured using a fine suture technique.
After the eyelid lift, you can leave our practice in Mannheim on the same day. However, you should note that your vision may be temporarily restricted and you are therefore not allowed to drive yourself. We recommend that you have someone close to you accompany you to your treatment appointment.
The after-effects of an eyelid lift are usually relatively mild and subside after just a few days. You should take it easy during this time to support wound healing. You can return to your daily routine after just a few days. If slight swelling or bruising is still visible, this can be concealed with make-up if necessary.
The healing phase after an eyelid lift takes around 3 - 6 months. The final result of the eyelid lift can be assessed after this time. As a rule, however, our patients are largely able to work and socialize again just a few days after the operation. Only physically strenuous activities should be undertaken with caution in the first few weeks.
We perform eyelid lifting in Mannheim under local anesthesia so that the procedure is painless for you. If you wish, we can also perform the eyelid lift under twilight sleep or general anesthesia.
Even after the eyelid lift, there is usually only minimal wound pain, for which we will prescribe a suitable painkiller before the operation.
In principle, the effect of an eyelid correction is permanent, as excess skin and tissue are completely removed. However, the natural ageing process continues even after an eyelid lift. This can lead to renewed sagging of the skin at a later date.
Depending on your individual lifestyle and predisposition, it can be expected to last around 10 years. If you notice that unsightly drooping eyelids or bags under the eyes are forming again, we will be happy to advise you on a new eyelid lift in Mannheim.
Blepharoplasty is a routine procedure in our practice. Dr. Schumacher has more than 20 years of experience in the field of eyelid lifting, so we can guarantee you a high level of treatment safety. Nevertheless, every operation is always associated with a certain risk. Complications such as secondary bleeding, wound healing disorders or inflammation can never be completely ruled out.
Immediately after the procedure, slight swelling, blurred vision, feelings of pressure or tension may occur. Initial bruising is also normal and no cause for concern. The visible after-effects should subside after a few days with careful cooling. Problems with eyelid closure are not to be expected if the eyelid lift is carried out professionally.
Fine scars remain after an eyelid lift, but these should hardly be visible to the naked eye once the procedure has healed. Dr. Schumacher has specialized in scar-saving techniques for years and also uses them for eyelid lifts. If an upper eyelid lift is performed, the incisions are made in the crease of the eyelid and are only visible later when the eyes are closed. In a lower eyelid lift, the incisions are made close to the lash line. Here too, the fine scars are almost invisible later on.
After the eyelid lift, you should carefully cool the eye area and sleep with your upper body elevated for the first few days. It is also important that you take it easy physically after the procedure. Light activities can be resumed after just a few days. You should refrain from sport and intensive physical exertion for at least 1 - 2 weeks.
