First impressions count - this is especially true for the eyes. A clear, alert gaze immediately impresses others and conveys a positive overall image. Unfortunately, there are a few factors that can cloud an alert gaze and which we cannot always influence.

Bags under the eyes are often genetic or occur as a result of natural skin ageing. They make the face look puffy and tired, although this is often not the case. This causes a great deal of suffering for those affected. If external treatments have no effect, it may therefore be advisable to surgically remove the bags under the eyes.

During a lower eyelid lift (lower blepharoplasty), excess skin, water retention and small fat deposits under the eyes are surgically removed. This creates tiny wounds directly under the lash line, which are later almost invisible to the naked eye.

By removing the bags under the eyes, we open up the entire eye area and give the face back its youthful freshness. You can look forward to an open and clear gaze again. We would be happy to advise you personally on lower eyelid lifting in Mannheim and work with you to create a personalized treatment concept.

Frequently asked questions about lower eyelid lifting in Mannheim

In a personal consultation, Dr. Schumacher will find out what is currently bothering you about your eye area. An individual treatment plan will then be developed together with you. If you decide to have lower blepharoplasty, Dr. Schumacher will inform you in detail about all aspects of the procedure, including risks, aftercare and possible results.

We generally perform lower eyelid lift surgery in Mannheim on an outpatient basis. Local anesthesia is usually sufficient, unless you wish to have surgery under sedation or general anesthesia.

Dr. Schumacher first makes two fine incisions along the lower edge of the eyelid. In the next step, he removes the bulging fat pads, water retention and excess skin. The incisions are closed with a fine suture technique and you can return home after a short recovery break.

After the lower eyelid lift, consistent cooling is important to avoid swelling and hematomas as far as possible. You should also take it easy physically and avoid sport for 1 - 2 weeks. Most of our patients can return to work after just a few days. In Mannheim, we carry out regular follow-up checks to ensure that healing is proceeding without complications.

The exact price of a lower eyelid lift can vary depending on the extent of the treatment. If you would like to have your bags under your eyes removed and are considering surgery, we would be happy to meet you at our practice for a no-obligation consultation. After Dr. Schumacher has got to know your wishes and expectations, you will receive a personal cost estimate from us.

It can take around 3 - 6 months until healing is complete. However, the first results can be seen after around 3 weeks. The initial swelling is usually completely gone after 14 days.

The operation itself takes place under anesthesia and is therefore not associated with any pain for you. Experience has shown that the pain is also limited after the procedure. In the event that unpleasant pain does occur, we will prescribe you a suitable painkiller before the eyelid correction.

The initial swelling usually subsides within 2 weeks. We recommend that you cool the eye area extensively, especially in the first few days, so that the swelling subsides more quickly.

The results of surgical lower eyelid correction are generally permanent. Excess skin and fatty tissue are completely removed. Nevertheless, it is possible that new protrusions may form over the years. This is related to individual predisposition, but also to personal circumstances and natural skin ageing.

If you would like to have the bags under your eyes removed again at a later date, we will be happy to advise you on this. As a rule, however, you can expect a long shelf life of at least 10 years.

Lower eyelid correction is a routine procedure in our practice, for which we can guarantee you a very high level of treatment safety. Dr. Lars Schumacher has been performing eyelid lifts for over 20 years, which is an important prerequisite for successful treatment. Serious complications are not to be expected if an eyelid lift is carried out professionally.

Experience has shown that side effects are limited to temporary swelling, redness and occasional hematomas. In individual cases, there may be increased lacrimation or slightly protruding lower eyelids. However, these side effects are usually short-lived and quickly return to normal.

After the lacrimal sac surgery, you should rest for a few days and cool the treatment areas thoroughly. We also recommend sleeping with your upper body slightly elevated to support the lymph flow and counteract swelling.

Most of our patients can return to work after just a few days. However, you should refrain from strenuous activities and sport for about 2 weeks. Heavy lifting should also be avoided in the weeks following the operation.
