A clear look makes us appear open and dynamic. In contrast, the facial expression is clouded by puffy eyes and drooping eyelids. The face looks tired, sad and aged.
Drooping upper eyelids can be a temporary consequence of stress or too little sleep. However, the eyelids are often droopy overall and bulge out over the eyes. Such drooping eyelids can occur early in life for genetic reasons. They are also favored by external factors such as UV radiation, smoking or an unbalanced diet.
With the upper eyelid lift, we offer you a small but highly effective procedure to combat annoying drooping eyelids. During drooping eyelid surgery, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed to gently tighten the upper eyelids. This makes the entire eye area appear open, clear and fresh again.
With over 20 years of experience, Dr. Lars Schumacher is your expert for upper eyelid lifting in Mannheim. Through precise and individual planning, Dr. Schumacher ensures that an optimal result is achieved and that your eye area appears naturally refreshed after the procedure. You can return to your everyday working life after just a few days and will be amazed at the great effect a discreet eyelid correction can have.
Frequently asked questions about upper eyelid lifting in Mannheim
In a detailed preliminary consultation, Dr. Schumacher will discuss with you what is currently bothering you and how the drooping eyelids can be corrected. An individual treatment plan will then be drawn up. Dr. Schumacher will provide you with comprehensive information about the risks, aftercare and the expected results.
As a rule, eyelid lifting can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. At the patient's request, treatment under twilight sleep or general anesthesia is also possible. Dr. Schumacher makes a short incision along the eyelid crease, through which he then removes the prolapsed fat pads and any excess skin. The surgical wounds are sutured using scar-saving incision techniques, and after a short rest you can drive home.
Slight wound pain may occur in the following days, but this is usually limited. We will prescribe you a suitable painkiller in advance. Initial swelling and bruising usually subside quickly with cooling. Most of our patients can return to work after just a few days. You should only take a longer break from intensive activities and sport.
The cost of an upper eyelid lift varies depending on the patient's circumstances. Dr. Schumacher plans each treatment individually, so we cannot give you a fixed price in advance.
If you are interested in drooping eyelid surgery, we will be happy to arrange a non-binding consultation. After we have learned about your wishes, we will then provide you with a personal cost estimate.
It can take 3 - 6 months for complete healing after an upper eyelid lift. However, the first results can be seen approximately 3 weeks after the procedure.
The correction of drooping eyelids is not associated with pain due to the anesthesia. Even after the operation, experience has shown that the pain is limited. Of course, we will still be happy to prescribe a painkiller for you to take as required.
As a rule, the swelling has subsided to such an extent after approx. 2 weeks that patients are fully socially acceptable again. It is important that the eye area is cooled during the first few days. The cold effectively counteracts swelling and bruising.
Drooping eyelid surgery is a comparatively low-risk procedure. The prerequisite for a successful operation is that the surgeon performing the procedure is appropriately specialized and highly experienced. Dr. Schumacher has been performing eyelid lifts for over 20 years, so we can offer you a high level of treatment safety in our practice.
In rare cases, complications such as secondary bleeding, inflammation or wound healing disorders can occur despite all caution. Slight feelings of pressure or tension and blurred vision are also possible immediately after drooping eyelid correction. These side effects usually disappear after a few days with cooling.
We are always available for you after your upper eyelid lift in Mannheim in the event of any major complaints. Close supervision and regular follow-up checks ensure the greatest possible safety even after the operation.
After a drooping eyelid correction, fine scars remain, but they run inconspicuously in the crease of the eyelid. They are therefore no longer visible when the eyes are open. Experience has also shown that the scars fade over time so that they are largely invisible once healing is complete.
After drooping eyelid removal, extensive cooling is important to counteract swelling and bruising. We also recommend that you sleep with your upper body elevated to support the lymph flow and reduce swelling.
You should take it easy physically, especially in the first few days. Sport, heavy lifting and other strenuous activities should be avoided for about 1 - 2 weeks after the upper eyelid lift. If you do a specific type of sport, Dr. Schumacher will be happy to tell you in a personal consultation how long you should ideally take a break.
